THE SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN AND WOMEN IN ZIMBABWE<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

Terre des Hommes<\/strong> has been present in Zimbabwe since 2004<\/strong>, providing education and protection<\/strong> to children who are systematically denied access to basic services.<\/span><\/p>\n

The pandemic has resulted in a further decline in the quality of education<\/strong>, replaced by radio programs on community radios or in some cases by the use of scarce mobile phones. Access to previously lacking services has become non-existent, healthcare is not functional, and access to public facilities has become increasingly complicated.<\/strong> Additionally, there has been an exponential increase in cases of violence within families.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the ongoing financial crisis<\/strong> that began just before the pandemic, and worsened in 2022, the purchasing power of the population has decreased drastically, and inflation has surpassed 200%. In this situation, corruption is increasingly rampant, and access to protection services and justice has become increasingly difficult.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

What does our support involve?<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • We ensure social, healthcare, nutritional, and educational assistance for children.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n
    • We support schools and train teachers<\/strong> and community workers<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      • Since 2015<\/strong>, we have been working with refugees and asylum seekers<\/strong> in the Tongogara camp, providing them with basic necessities, healthcare services, educational support,<\/strong> and vocational training<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
          \n
        • Since 2020, we have made schools safer, built warehouses for storing essential supplies, and trained teachers<\/strong> on topics such as child protection and gender-sensitive approaches.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
            \n
          • We have created training courses in schools, installed weather stations<\/strong> with the support of the national meteorological system to raise awareness among students and communities about environmental issues<\/strong> and disaster preparedness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            WHAT DO WE DO WITH CHILD SPONSORSHIP?<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

            Terre des Hommes operates through Child Sponsorship in Central and Eastern Mashonaland, with the aim of implementing projects for children<\/strong>, improving their living conditions. Thanks to Child Sponsorship:<\/span><\/p>\n

              \n
            • We provide financial support to the most impoverished families<\/strong> to help them ensure the enrollment of children in school<\/strong> and regular attendance.<\/span><\/li>\n
            • We carry out school reconstruction projects<\/strong> to create a child-friendly and safe environment where studying is enjoyable.<\/span><\/li>\n
            • We organize training courses<\/strong> for community workers and teachers, particularly focusing on topics such as care, violence prevention<\/strong>, and child protection.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
            • We help farming families start sustainable agricultural activities and small-scale livestock farming.<\/strong><\/li>\n
            • We provide psychological support to children and women victims of violence.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n
            • We work with authorities to ensure efficient management in emergency situations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              These activities were carried out thanks to funding from UNHCR, ECHO, WFP, Julia Taft Foundation, Private donors, and AICS.<\/p>\n
