In Bangladesh<\/strong>, one\u00a0of the most densely populated countries with a high poverty rate in the world, we have been present since 1996.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\nIn this situation of extreme poverty, workers live without rights, and the most vulnerable group is women, subjected to exploitation, harassment, and abuse. It is estimated that 7.4%<\/strong> of female workers have experienced sexual abuse, while 91.9%<\/strong> report being repeatedly mistreated and insulted.<\/span><\/p>\nWHO DO WE SUPPORT?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n- We support vulnerable girls<\/strong> and women<\/strong> by helping them improve their socio-economic conditions, raising awareness of their rights, and promoting the creation of safe spaces.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Children<\/strong>, girls<\/strong>, and families<\/strong> in rural areas and urban slums, promoting awareness campaigns on children’s rights, early marriages, domestic violence, and the importance of education for children.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
WHAT DO WE DO WITH CHILD SPONSORSHIP?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\nIn particular, in the northern region of Kurigram and in Aparajeyo, Arban, and Sapptola – three slums in the capital Dhaka – we carry out projects for boys and girls through Child Sponsorship with the aim of improving their living conditions. Thanks to Child Sponsorship:<\/p>\n
\n- We ensure access to primary and secondary education<\/strong> by providing school kits, uniforms, safe classrooms, food and clean water at school, remedial classes and support, and assistance with homework.<\/li>\n
- We ensure basic healthcare assistance<\/strong> and psychological and social support programs.<\/span><\/li>\n
- We help community members identify and report cases of abuse<\/strong> and mistreatment<\/strong> to ensure child protection.<\/span>
<\/strong><\/li>\n- We create family gardens to promote healthier<\/strong> and more balanced nutrition<\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
ALONGSIDE FEMALE FACTORY WORKERS AND DOMESTIC WORKERS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\nWith the Unity for Dignity<\/strong><\/span> project, funded by the European Union (EuropeAid)<\/strong><\/span>, we are working to ensure the social and economic rights of 800 domestic workers and textile sector workers in the city of Dhaka.<\/span><\/p>\nHow do we do it<\/span>?<\/span><\/p>\n\n- By involving companies<\/strong> and employers<\/strong> and providing them with specific training on national labor legislation.<\/span><\/li>\n
- With support for the opening of daycare centers<\/strong> in factories.<\/span><\/li>\n
- Facilitating spaces and moments of dialogue<\/strong> between employers and workers.<\/span>
Through organizing training sessions for women on the right to sexual and reproductive health<\/strong>, gender issues, leadership, and labor rights.<\/span><\/li>\n- Developing ‘women’s cafes<\/strong>‘ where, in addition to receiving a series of training sessions, they have access to health services and psychological support.<\/span><\/li>\n
- With legal support<\/strong> and assistance in obtaining compensation in case of workplace accidents.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
