The work of Terre des Hommes in Jordan<\/span><\/h1>\n

Jordan has become a haven for hundreds of thousands of refugees, mainly from Syria and Iraq, who are victims of the conflicts in the Middle East in recent decades. Refugee families often live in dramatic conditions in official or informal refugee camps or makeshift housing. In fact, 86% of Syrian refugees live below the poverty<\/strong> line and struggle to access basic services, such as healthcare and education, which are inadequate for the rapidly growing population. Additionally, many of them are not even registered as refugees and therefore are invisible. Due to poverty, many refugee children do not attend school and often end up being exploited in various forms of child labor, while females are married off as teenagers.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The sharp increase in energy and food prices is also affecting the poorest Jordanian families, widening the social gap.<\/span><\/p>\n

Terre des Hommes has been present in Jordan since 2003<\/strong> and operates in the governorates of Irbid, Mafraq, and Zarqa in the north, as well as Amman, Maan, and Aqaba in the south, targeting the most vulnerable families, both refugees and non-refugees.<\/span><\/p>\n

HOW DO WE HELP CHILDREN AND MOTHERS IN JORDAN?<\/span><\/h3>\n

  • We support educational, recreational, and psychosocial activities for the most vulnerable children and rehabilitate some public schools. We promote quality and inclusive education for children with disabilities<\/strong>. To reduce the dropout rate and prevent children from working, we support students with learning difficulties through remedial courses or after-school activities<\/strong>. We provide assistance to the most vulnerable families to ensure their children attend school and offer income-generating activities for the poorest women.<\/li>\n
  • We raise awareness within communities about issues related to child protection, gender-based violence, and the social inclusion of people with disabilities.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • We are active in ensuring the health of vulnerable refugee and Jordanian mothers and their children, including through mobile clinics. We provide gynecological, prenatal, and postnatal visits for mothers and newborns, medication<\/strong>, contributions for specialized appointments, family planning counseling services, and assistance to girls and women who are victims of violence.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Our main donors in Jordan are the European Union, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), German Cooperation, Polish Cooperation, Polish Medical Mission, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.<\/p>\n
