Il Bangladesh ha fatto un pericoloso passo indietro sui matrimoni precoci<\/a>. Il parlamento di Dacca ha infatti accolto una proposta di modifica al \u201cChild marriage restraint act<\/em>\u201d (varato nel 1929) Che permette alle ragazze con meno di 18 anni di sposarsi \u201cin alcuni casi specifici\u201d. <\/strong>Per le associazioni impegnate nella tutela dei diritti delle bambine, questa decisione rischia di cancellare i risultati ottenuti in questi anni per ridurre il numero dei matrimoni precoci<\/strong> e \u2013 di conseguenza – le gravidanze infantili.
\nIl Bangladesh ha uno dei tassi pi\u00f9 elevati al mondo di matrimoni infantili, soprattutto tra le ragazzine con meno di 15 anni. I dati dell\u2019Unicef evidenziano per\u00f2 come l\u2019incidenza delle baby spose con meno di 18 anni sia passata dal 65% del 2000 al 52% del 2016. Mentre tra le under 15 si \u00e8 passati dal 38% al 18%.<\/strong>
\nIl primo ministro Sheikh Hasina e gli altri rappresentanti del governo favorevoli alla riforma sostengono che sia necessaria per prevenire l\u2019ostracismo sociale che subiscono le ragazze incinte e che non sono sposate. Ma in Bangladesh \u2013 replicano le associazioni \u2013 sono pochissime le bambine che restano incinte al di fuori del matrimonio.
\nCon questa nuova normativa, ogni matrimonio in cui la sposa ha meno di 18 anni verr\u00e0 sottoposto da un comitato locale e approvato da un tribunale. Chi si oppone a questo decreto invece evidenzia come questi comitati siano collusi con i genitori che spingono le loro figlie a sposarsi prima dei 18 anni<\/strong>. Oppure falsificando i certificati di matrimonio per farle risultare pi\u00f9 grandi.
\nLa normativa precedente \u2013 sebbene non fosse perfetta \u2013 aveva una serie di strumenti che permettevano alle ragazze di far rispettare i propri diritti. Come ha fatto Sharmin Akter, studentessa diciassettenne di Jamalpur nel nord del Bangladesh. Quando aveva solo 13 anni avrebbe dovuto sposare un uomo molto pi\u00f9 anziano di lei, ma la ragazza si \u00e8 rivolta a un\u2019associazione locale formata da adolescenti che hanno chiamato la polizia.<\/strong> \u201cLa mia vita \u00e8 stata una lotta \u2013 racconta \u2013 ma alla fine ho vinto\u201d.
