Ogni anno, in India, circa 239mila bambine fino ai cinque anni di et\u00e0 muoiono per mancanza di cure mediche o per cause evitabili<\/strong>. Interventi spesso banali -ad esempio quelli necessari a curare un\u2019influenza o un\u2019infezione- che per\u00f2 vengono negati alle bambine a causa di una forte discriminazione di genere, radicata soprattutto in alcune aree del Paese. Per un totale che ammonta a 2,4 milioni di morti nel decennio<\/strong>, che si vanno a sommare alle bambine che non sono mai venute al mondo a seguito degli aborti selettivi, ancora molto diffusi nel Paese. I due fenomeni, sommati, provocano un drammatico sbilanciamento di genere, determinando il fenomeno delle \u201cdonne mancanti\u201d: circa 63 milioni il numero stimato in India<\/a><\/strong>.
\n\u00c8 la drammatica fotografia scattata dalla rivista medica britannica \u201cThe Lancet<\/a><\/strong>\u201d, che per la prima volta ha studiato la mortalit\u00e0 tra le bambine con meno di cinque anni nel Paese e ha cercato di individuarne le cause. \u201cLe discriminazioni di genere nei confronti delle bambine non si limitano agli aborti selettivi, ma possono anche aumentare il tasso di mortalit\u00e0 tra quelle che sono venute alla luce -spiega Christophe Guilmoto-. La parit\u00e0 di genere non riguarda solo il diritto all\u2019istruzione, al lavoro o alla rappresentanza politica. Riguarda anche le cure mediche, le vaccinazioni e la nutrizione delle bambine. In definitiva, la sopravvivenza\u201d.<\/p>\n

Un fenomeno diffuso nel Nord dell’India<\/h2>\n

Il report mette innanzitutto in evidenza una chiara distinzione geografica. Sebbene la mortalit\u00e0 in eccesso tra le bambine con meno di cinque anni sia diffusa in quasi tutto il Paese (29 stati su 35<\/strong>), questa riguarda soprattutto gli stati settentrionali dell\u2019India, in modo particolare l\u2019Uttar Pradesh, il Bihar, il Rajasthan e il Madhya Pradesh che da soli contano circa due terzi delle morti in eccesso tra le bambine con meno di cinque anni. L\u2019Uttar Pradesh, lo stato pi\u00f9 popoloso dell\u2019India, ha un\u2019incidenza pari a 30,5 morti ogni mille nati vivi tra le bambine. In alcune parti del Rajasthan occidentale e del Bihar settentrionale, l’eccesso di mortalit\u00e0 dovuto a pregiudizi di genere rappresenta il 30-50% del tasso di mortalit\u00e0 delle donne al di sotto dei cinque anni.<\/strong>
\nLo studio del \u201cLancet\u201d, inoltre, evidenzia come le aree maggiormente interessate dal fenomeno sino quelle rurali, con un basso livello di istruzione, alta densit\u00e0 abitativa. La ricerca evidenzia anche un legame con gli alti tassi di natalit\u00e0, suggerendo che \u201cl\u2019eccesso di mortalit\u00e0 post-natale tra le bambine sia una conseguenza di una gravidanza non voluta e dalla conseguente negligenza verso le figlie femmine\u201d.<\/p>\n

Le “donne mancanti” e la lotta alla mortalit\u00e0 infantile<\/h2>\n

La prima e pi\u00f9 immediata conseguenza di questa situazione \u00e8 l\u2019aumento dello sbilanciamento demografico<\/strong> che in India vede un rapporto medio alla nascita di 107 maschi ogni 100 femmine (ma che in alcune regioni arriva al rapporto record di 100 maschi ogni 100 femmine) a fronte di una media mondiale di 105\/100. C\u2019\u00e8 poi una seconda -altrettanto grave- conseguenza: l\u2019eccesso di mortalit\u00e0 tra le bambine ha impedito al Paese di raggiungere gli Obiettivi di sviluppo del millennio fissati per il 2015, che fissava un target pari a 42 morti ogni 1.000 nati vivi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
