Protection
The Convention on the Rights of the Child states that all children have the right to be protected from violence, exploitation, and abuse. Unfortunately, the reality is different. Millions of children from all social classes, ages, religions, and cultures are victims of mistreatment, abuse, violence, and exploitation every day. Many more are at risk of experiencing these things themselves.
Terre des Hommes for the most vulnerable children
Since our foundation 60 years ago, we have prioritized the protection of the most vulnerable children in our projects, regardless of their gender, ethnicity, or social condition.
Disabled children, orphans, belonging to ethnic minorities, as well as street children, workers, minors in conflict with the law, migrant children, refugees: our constant commitment for them is to ensure the same rights as others and protect them from any risk of social exclusion and violence.
This also means collaborating with the states in which we operate to ensure that they work to fill gaps in child protection within their institutions and policies. For example, in Italy, we promoted the system of protection for unaccompanied foreign minors, which resulted in the law 47/2017, and we have been involved in training the operators who assist them.
