    Create Opportunities for a Sustainable Agriculture and Livestock Development to enhance the Resilience of Beitbridge and Mwenezi Communities (CROPS)

    Description:The CROPS consortium is led by CESVI. In supporting agricultural productivity and sustainability Terre Des Hommes Italy provides
    • Technical agronomic capacity building to farmers producing high value crops in irrigation schemes under contract;
    • Promotes adoption mechanized conservation farming for dryland farmers
    • Facilitates the establishment of village based micro savings and lending schemes linked with income generating projects.
    • Capacity building of local stakeholders at district and ward level in Community Based Disaster Risk Management and development of community based plans.
    • Promotes livestock productivity through participatory epidemiology capacity training of extension officers and farmers, dip tank rehabilitation & improvement of water supply to the dip tank.
    Livestock production, irrigated agriculture and dryland farming initiatives are supported with participatory market chain development in collaboration with private sector players facilitating market linkages.

    Create Opportunities for a Sustainable Agriculture and Livestock to enhance the resilience and promote FOOD security of Beitbridge and Mwenezi

    Description: The project is complementing the CROPS project with an additional component on improving nutrition practices through Infant and Young Children Feeding Practices education, Nutrition Sensitive Agriculture training and Nutrient Preserving food processing methods. Specific trainings will target pregnant & lactating mothers, care givers of children under 2 years, and school teachers in collaboration with village health workers. Other key activities include:
    • Facilitating market analysis and business capacity development for small livestock farmers,
    • Promote small livestock (goat and indigenous chickens) breed improvement and sustainable animal husbandry practices targeting smallholder farmers involved in savings and lending schemes
    • Dip tank rehabilitation in including installation of solar systems to improve water supply at dip tanks
    • Promote improved post-harvest technology (Hermetic Silos) for storage of small grains for dry land farmers practicing mechanized conservation agriculture.
    Under this project Terre des Hommes is supporting more rural communities in developing Disaster Risk Strategies including targeted trainings to manage the Fall Army Worm.

    To improve beneficiaries’ right to education and other social protection needs in Mwenezi, Chipinge, Mazowe, Goromonzi, Gokwe and Bindura Districts of Zimbabwe

    Description: Terre des Hommes is supporting access to education for children in former farming, mining and rural communities including the refugee host community through school fees support, school uniforms support for children and school’s infrastructure development. The project strengthens protection mechanisms targeting children and women at risk of abuse in the vulnerable farm worker communities. Child protection surveillance, case management and supporting school based psychosocial activities and child rights awareness campaigns are among the key activities meant to reduce early marriages, child labour and harmful cultural practices (e.g. depriving access to education for the girl child).
    Interventions also include supporting schools and communities in establishing agricultural projects with a bias towards school feeding, income generating and asset building. TDH works with relevant Government line ministries in monitoring and providing capacity building on key thematic protection issues for teachers, parents and local school development committees.
