MADAD. Back to the Future: School readiness, inclusion and retention for children victims of the Syrian crisis in Lebanon and Jordan

    Description: The project promotes enrolment and improves retention in formal education for refugee Syrian children. The core element of the education sector strategy is to strengthen the public education system with the priority of increasing and sustaining enrolment of children from Syria in the formal public education system. The precondition to reach this ambitious target is to implement a comprehensive program rehabilitating the existing schools. Terre des Hommes Italy will improve access to formal education systems by rehabilitating 4 schools. Furthermore, it will work towards improving retention rates of school-aged children and adolescents through the provision of learning support programs featuring remedial classes and homework support and carrying out recreational activities for children, adolescents and their care-givers.

    Improving Mother and Child Health among Syrian refugees and host communities in the Governorate of Zarqa

    Description: The project will provide ANC/PNC services for vulnerable Jordanians and Syrian with access to medications. Terre des Hommes Italy has been providing access to antenatal and postnatal care for the past two years through its implementing partner- Soldier Family Welfare Society in the governorate of Zarqa. The services also include provision of Family Planning methods along with access to free medications. Through this planned project, Terre des Hommes Italy will be able to continue its response and expand the services to a larger number of people. Moreover, the intervention will raise awareness about three crucial topics: the risks of Child Early Forced Marriage, the importance of modern family planning methods and the benefits of breastfeeding.
    Each month, awareness sessions will be available for all the families visiting the clinic. The awareness sessions will include the screening of a short movie produced by Terre des Hommes Italy in 2016. The film provides a strong message on the various issues that revolve around early child marriage in Jordan. In addition to this, the awareness sessions will be interactive with the use of focus group discussions.

    Mostaqbaluna: Improving access to primary health and protection services for teh most vulnerable communities in the Governorate of Mafraq

    Description: The project aims at reinforcing the health and the protection status of Syrian refugees and other vulnerable groups living in informal settlements of the most isolated areas of the Mafraq Governorate, in Jordan, through the delivery of health and social assistance. Terre des Hommes Italia, in cooperation with the NGOs Vento di Terra e War Child UK, will reinforce the capacity to deliver health and social services of local organization operating in the Mafraq Governorate through technical capacity building and awareness sessions on gender based violence, child protection, child and maternal health care, family planning and hygiene promotion. The project component implemented by TDH’s partners focuses on social assistance through psycho-social support sessions, occupational teraphy and protection case management, whereas TDH IT component focues on primary, child and maternal health care, through a mobile clinic that will serve hard-to-reach communities suffering from low level of service availability.

    Reduction of Child Labour in host communities in the Governerate of Zarqa

    Description: The project aims to addressing the issue of child labor in the Governorate of Zarqa through an integrated approach: Terre des Hommes Italy will enure the provision of quality and inclusive educational services for children affected by the Syrian crisis and at risk of dropping out of school through learning support activities (remedial classes, homework support, recreational activities), structured psychosocial support (PSS), and raise awareness activities related to the importance of education. Furthermore, the project aims to building the capacity of the local partner of addressing child protection issues.

    Description: The Long Distance Sponsorship Program, jointly implemented by TDH IT and SFWS since 2003, foreseen the implementation of educational and recrehational activities for the vulnerable children participating in the program. Moreover, during the summer break, the children are involved in the summer camp, where they can play games, sports, drawings and music, Moreover, the SAD promotes a equitable access to education through the distribution of school kits and winter jackets, distributed to the children in need.

    Support for basic medical care, maternal, newborn and child healthcare and improvement of hygienic standards for local community, IDP and Syrian refugees in the Governorate of Zarqa

    Activities: Provision of Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal and Child care (RMNCH) in Zarqa for both Syrian and Jordanian vulnerable populations. The intervention includes access to antenatal, postnatal and paediatric services for all pregnant and lactating women and children below the age of 18, screening patients for malnutrition and awareness on breastfeeding through collaborating with local partners, capacity building for the field staff, family planning and counselling, lab tests and access to free medication. Terre des Hommes Italy provided also SFWS with a mobile unit for the provision of home-based visits for women and children unable to reach the clinic.

    Project for the improvement of the life conditions of Syrian refugees and vulnerable Lebanese and Jordanian host community for the development of technical and professional skills and for the creation of employment opportunities in the Bekaa Governorate in Lebanon and in the Amman Governorate in Jordan

    Description: The project aims to provide Syrian refugees and vulnerable host community with employment opportunities and decent work in the garment sector, to foster their livelihoods and self-reliance.
    The project provides the beneficiaries with two kind of training: technical training about basic sewing techniques, and a practical training about the techniques and standards used in the large scale garment production, carried out in a garment factory located in the Qualified Industrial Zone of Sahab.
    The project has organized raise awareness events about social cohesion and inclusion of women in the economic life of the community. Several events took place in the auditorium of the cultural center of the Municipality of Sahab, with theatre plays and workshops.
    At the end of the training the beneficiaries were given employment opportunities in the Garment factory, through a one year contract.

    MISS Improving school infrastructures and developing educational opportunities for vulnerable children in Lebanon and Jordan

    Description: The project is an integrated regional response aiming at facilitating the access of children from local communities and child refugees to the formal public education system. TdH Italy – Jordan rehabilitated of two schools in the Governorate of Jerash: here, the existing buildings have been stabilized and recovered and water and sanitary systems have been rehabilitated. Also, access of children with disabilities to schools has been improved, by removing barriers and meeting the standards for accessible infrastructures and services. The project addressed three main cross-cutting issues, being disability, gender, and environmental protection.
